By day, I'm a user experience designer; by evenings/weekends, I write novels from my home in Scappoose, Ore. My newest is Awake in the World, due February 2019 from Roaring Brook Press; my most recent, Eleanor, was published by Crown in 2016 and has since been translated into German, Portuguese, and Turkish.

A year in review

Well, here we are, just a few days away from the close of a very strange, often very heartbreaking, very dark kind of year. Things we've trusted in have slid sideways; pillars seem to have buckled; people we've loved are gone; people we love may be at risk. It's been that kind of a year, and it seems to promise more of the same next year and beyond.

And yet there were moments of goodness throughout, moments of warmth and love and laughter. It's worth remembering those, I think, especially now.

So here are some of mine. I hope that you've had many, too, and that next year brings many, many more, despite whatever else may come.

New years, good intentions, and reading lists
