Jason Gurley

By day, I'm a user experience designer; by evenings/weekends, I write novels from my home in Scappoose, Ore. My newest is Awake in the World, published February 2019 by Roaring Brook Press; my previous novel, Eleanor, was published by Crown in 2016 and has since been translated into German, Portuguese, and Turkish. I’m currently working on a new project.

Opening the books

A few years ago, I was juggling three full-time gigs: designing software, writing novels, and designing book covers. One of those had to give, and book covers were the only really expendable option. After all, at my peak, I designed covers for twenty authors/month. That was unsustainable, obviously, and it was a relief to back away from that work and focus on other things.

Fast-forward a couple years, and I sort of miss designing book covers. I have no interest in burying myself the way I did in the past, but I've decided to take on just a couple of projects per month again. Enough to scratch the design itch, and help some authors put a strong foot forward.

I've reopened the books, just a little bit. Portfolio of my past work, and a contact form, are here.
